SNV to present at the 2019 UNC Water and Health Conference: Where Science Meets Policy

October 2019

Event

Join SNV at the 2019 Water and Health Conference at the University of North Carolina (UNC) to discuss our interventions in WASH and announce a Call to Action for Rural Sanitation with global partners UNICEF, World Bank, Plan International, WaterAid, and WSSCC.

The 2019 UNC Water and Health Conference will take place from 7 to 9 October at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill. The conference explores drinking water supply, sanitation, hygiene and water resources around the world. It puts strong emphasis on public health. The cross-cutting themes for this year's conference are Humanitarian WASH, WASH financing and markets, climate variability and water security, evidence-based WASH, and WASH and wnvironmental health.

This year, SNV's Multi-Country SSH4A Results Programme (SSH4A-RP) Manager, Anne Mutta, will present findings from SSH4A-RP implementation in Tanzania; as a part of the anticipated Call to Action on rural sanitation. This particular session will provide an opportunity to further familiarise practitioners with guidance on adaptive rural sanitation programming through specific examples and experiences. Learn more about SNV's SSH4A (Sustainable Sanitation and Hygiene for All) approach.

Anne will also be a part of the presentation, 'Sanitation Workers: The Missing Link in the Sanitation Chain' where she will share SNV's baseline findings on sanitation workers and occupational health and safety in Bangladesh, Indonesia, Nepal, Tanzania, and Zambia. This research initiative is part of SNV’s citywide urban sanitation efforts. The session will present approaches and tools, including an innovative affordability metric, to guide policy makers in designing effective and efficient context-specific subsidies. Learn more about SNV's USHHD (Urban Sanitation and Hygiene for Health and Development) approach.
