Today we are celebrating International Women’s Day. This year’s theme urges all of us to #PressforProgress, a call-to-action to press forward and progress gender parity. On this day the WEAVE project would like to share how we are pressing for progress by accelerating a gender transformation in the banana, cinnamon and pig value chains in the North of Vietnam.
The Women’s Economic Empowerment through Agricultural Value Chain Enhancement (WEAVE) project is funded by the Australian Government and implemented by a partnership of three international non-governmental organisations - SNV in Vietnam, CARE International in Vietnam and Oxfam in Vietnam. WEAVE is supporting ethnic minority women’s economic empowerment in the pork, cinnamon and banana value chains by promoting equality between women and men within households and producer groups, strengthening women and men producers’ skills and bargaining power, and working with business and government decision-makers to improve the policy environment to support producers.
The pictures below present experiences and the initial impact of the WEAVE project from the perspective of our local partners and the farmers we work with.
